2gether (Thai Series)

Time for one more Thai BL stories. Gosh!! I feel that I am slowly starting to get addicted to these stories. Slightly unbelievable and very sugary sweet love stories, these all fall into the whole romantic fantasy world that we all want to live in but is probably not very realistic. Still, given that these stories are usually set in school or college times, where the harsh realities of life have not come in yet; it's good to live in a calm, sweet and loving world. This is 13 episodes, almost 40 minute each.

Tine and his group of 3 other friends are new to college and are always looking for girls. But soon enough, a very enthusiastic gay admirer Green starts to be after Tine all the time. After trying various tricks to keep him off, his friends suggest that he should get a pretend boyfriend, which can probably help him get rid of attention from Green. Initially reluctant, he soon gives in and Sarawat comes into picture. Sarawat is a very introvert yet handsome guy with huge fan following. When Tine approaches him, he first declines but eventually agrees. Soon fake boyfriend and flirting starts bringing in some real feelings for each other to both of them. It feels Sarawat is very sure that he wants to pursue Tine but Tine is not very sure. The two boys bond over music and songs from a band Scrubb. Eventually, we find out that Sarawat had first seen Tine a year ago and since then he had fallen for him but he had no idea who Tine was. Things changed to Sarawat's surprise when Tine reached out to him to be his fake boyfriend and then how Sarawat's friends helped and supported him throughout the journey. The series follows the ups and downs of the couple and then in last 5-6 episodes also introduces 2 more couples. One involving Tine's brother and Sarawat's friend. And the third one being of Sarawat's younger brother, who had a crush on a guy who hates Sarawat, because he also secretly has a crush on Tine.

In a different time and world, I would have called this show cheesy because of the constant flirtations and "love" scenes that happen between Tine and Sarawat, but I am now very used to understanding the psyche behind these shows. Fake date, move from enemy to lover, flirting, side kick of friends; these BL shows check all these boxes catering to the target teenage audience. As mentioned in prior series, here no one judges you for your sexuality, its all about falling in love and a very seamless witch from loving a girl to loving a boy. Contrary to most other series, this one gets to point from very beginning but surprisingly feels too stretched to wards the end. The last 2 episodes were totally not necessary. the whole angle of bringing back Sarawat's school girlfriend was completely uncalled for. Tine and Sarawat had good chemistry but surprisingly that chemistry feel less real when they both start dating for real and move in together. I was soo excited in initial few episodes but was a bit let down eventually. And like I mentioned before, the other two love stories seemed very forced in last few episodes, and they really dont add much to the overall story. That could have easily been avoided. There’s a lot of cringe-worthy scenes, problematic lines, and the acting may be questionable at times, but at the end of the day it’s a series that positively depicts the nuances of a very real love story between two people of the same gender. A lot of scenes felt repetitive but I guess thats a risk you have when you make a series. The 2 actors look good together and act ok. I didn't think they were the hottest looking where in the crazy college girls would just shout and scream everytime they even hear rthe mention of Sarawat. T hat was completely over the top. Music plays an integral part of the show since the 2 boys are part of a music club and its over learning guitar that they eventually connect.

Slightly disappointing especially compared to some of the other recent real good BL series that I have seen in recent past few months. (6.5/10)

If not for the handsome Sarawat, I would probably have quit before the end. His cute face and good acting got me. Neither good nor bad, really stretched, it is just OK and may be recommended as some sort of warm up for BL beginners, before they move on to more powerful stories. Can people really be together for months and never kiss or have sex ?
I am nearly starting to feel disappointed now, I feel like I already watched the best ones, that are Tharntype & UWMA.

The bigger problem with some these series is thatchy drag on for like 9-10 episodes and only towards the end, something big happens.
And yes, completely agree on how people can just be in love without kissing or more. It baffles me, but sometimes I just tell myself that maybe I don't understand the culture.

I have to agree to most of what you’ve said. The beginning was sooo good and got me hooked, but once they become real boyfriends they have less chemistry than when they were faking it. The 2 last episodes are a case study of how to ruin a good show at the end (by using many of the worst BL stupid drama tropes at the same time). Thankfully, the 5 special episodes came to put everything back in the right place (the 1st special episode was really perfect for that matter) and will make me have very good memories of this show in the end. It looks like the makers totally took the complaints into consideration to deliver the ending we were expecting, and I thank them for that! One of my favourite moments is when you see Sarawat reactions retrospectively, so happy and cute in front of his friends, totally different than his actual cold reaction towards Tine at first. That was adorable. Also can I say I find the main couple Tine/Sarawat to be of the most beautiful one ever. Not the hottest in any way, but if you search for « beautiful boys » here they come. I loved the OST too (and I admit having been listening to a scrubb playlist for a week after watching the show). I’ll gladly see the movie coming up this year, even if it’s just a re telling.

A movie version of the same series? or is that taking the story forward?
Either way, it is exciting news.

As I get it, it will be a re telling of the story from Sarawat point of vue. It might also take the story a little bit further. As you say either it's exciting!

The Shortest Distance is Round 3: Fallen Flowers

Continuing with the weird trilogy of "The Shortest Distance", I am so glad that finally I am done with part 3 and won't have to deal with this again in future. Thankfully, as of now the makers have not announced any further parts; which will save all of us on this earth from the embarrassment of watching this in near future. After the first 10 minutes are used in sort of recapping bits of first two parts, the story moves forward. Haruto is now starting to have feelings for Ruka, the mysterious pole dancer from second part. In a fit of rage, Ruka ends up killing the goat man and to save him and Haruto, Shibahara asks them to go underground. Meanwhile Shibahara continues the search for Seiya (the guy who had cut off Haruto's penis). It turns out Seiya is now also taking care of the original club owner from part 1. Both of them were released after they had informed Shibahara of Aoyama's secret location. Shibahara tortures Seiya's boyfriend leading to Seiya killin

One Summer Night (Korean)

I really wanted to like this film but for non native speakers, these movie leaves a lot to be understood and the way scenes were unfolding in front of me, I wasn't sure many times what was really going on. The story had potential button getting any back story on any of the characters limited my ability to empathize with any of these actors. Film starts with two North Korea military guys Yong Joon and Jae Sung having sex and they are caught red handed and they run. Three years later we see Yong Joon in Seoul leading a very mundane and poor life. He has a boyfriend Tae-Kyu, who is a weird guy. He is carefree, doesn't do any work and is completely emotional and financially dependent on Young Joon. In fact, even Yong Joon will go to any lengths to protect him , fend for him and taking care of him to the extent of even taking up prostitution. Suddenly one day Jae Sung appears in their life again. His motivation is not clear but it is obvious he wants Yong Joon back in his life, who

Ultimate masturbation: Shigoki no yama (Japanese) [The Ultimate Masturbation]

I would never know what was the point behind making this film. Was it supposed to be a comedy, cos it wasn't. It wasn't even porn. It was just a silly attempt at making something absolutely senseless and ridiculous. The story, as well as direction is equally shoddy. You could laugh for having seen something so bad, but I wouldn't call that comedy. An old man runs a camp about gay masturbation. The explanation given is that gays masturbate for pleasure unlike straight men, for whom the act is seen as shame or because they can't find a woman. One day a straight man shows up and wants to join the camp for his thesis. After discussion, he is allowed in. Rules include that you can masturbate together, you can masturbate one another, but there is no fellatio or anal sex. Some students of course breaks rule. The teacher then talks about 2 forms of masturbation which gives ultimate pleasure. He shows one without touching and then refuses to talk of the other. Somehow suddenly,
