El Sexo De Los ángeles (Spanish) [The Sex Of The Angels]

I absolutely loved this film. It was fantastic. Agreed, some aspects of it were a little unbelievable but still the story, the direction, the actors were just spot on. As a subject, the film is not easy to digest by everyone but I have reviewed a couple of film here on my blog before which talk about relationships between 3 people and not necessarily two. This film also explores a similar theme and the director does do the job with flying colors.

Bruno and Carla have been together for a long time. Bruno loves with Carla in Barcelona, whose parents gave her the apartment. A chance meeting with Rai changes Bruno's life. Bruno feels this instant connection towards Kai who is a karate teacher and a dancer. Starting of as a friendship, Bruno, can't control himself for long before he gives into Rai's seduction. But very soon we find out that it i snot about just seduction. The 2 men feel much more for each other. At the same time Bruno is very much in love with Carla. One day at gym, Carla sees the 2 men together and is heart broken and asks Bruno to leave. Rai can't bear to see Bruno like this and convinces Carla to take him back. They have an agreement that Bruno will live with Carla like before but he will keep meeting Rai occasionally. That way nothing will change. But things do change. Initially Carla hated Rai but soon they start becoming friends and before you know, they fall for each other too. Rai and carla are now having an affair and both feel guilty of not telling Bruno. Bruno is shocked and reacts strongly when he finds out about them but soon, sense prevails and all three of them realize that they all love each other. Their love for one person is no less or no more than the love for the other person.

There are a lot of side characters in the film, specially at the magazine office where carla works. They end up bringing a light feel to the film. They are all very good and the film shows some aspects of them as well. I loved all the scenes when Carla would think she is talking in private to her girlfriend at work and meanwhile the 3 guys in the office would always sneak up to hear hat's going on. Carla, Bruno and Rai are all great actors. When Bruno stars falling for Rai, his confusion is so evident and so is the fact that he is struggling but happy at the same time. Bruno does a marvelous job. Rai plays his part good with his moldering looks and his eyes. His character is quite lovable. Carla fits very well and does a decent job too. There were quite a few scenes in the film that I loved, specially the opening dancing sequence. All the moments when Bruno and Rai meet and are hanging, you can feel a weird sexual tension and finally when they do it, it is awesome. I liked that although Rai like Bruno, he did not want to take away the fact that Bruno was still in love with carla. It was interesting to hear that why do we have to live by social rules. We should do what we feel is the right thing to do. Bruno's smile is still etched in my mind. He was so cute.

I think the film was fantastic. If a film manages to keep my attention and don't let me get bored with good looks and acting, the job is done. Highly recommended. (8.5/10)

loved the movie! thanks a lot for your reviews, you never let met down ;)

however, when I read some other reviews about this movie by gay critics and how it was "not gay enough" and felt like a straight movie for straight viewers for them, I felt so angry at their closed-mindedness. of course everybody's entitled to their own opinion, but obviously they completely missed the point of this wonderful movie...

The only leap that I find hard to believe was the ease with which Carla starts falling for Rai. That in my mind shatters the entire premise of how strong love is and what one does to hold on to that love. The very reason Carla seems to accept Rai (re Bruno) disappears when she falls for Rai herself. I am not saying it can never happen - I am just saying Rai's character left too much to be desired - really she was making the bed with him and they start having sex!! The film almost uses sexual attraction as this out-of-this-world concept which is beyond human control and reason. What could have been an amazing opportunity to explore human feelings and temptation and desires turns out to be a made up cliche superficial flick. Also not a single Person of color in this movie - another white world which is so unreal - it makes me sick - but thats another review.

Thanks for this blog though - this is a treasure trove and even though I disagree wildly with some of your recommendations I cannot be grateful enough for your painstaking and meticulous work. Thank you Golu!!

Thank you for your encouragement for the blog. As I have repeatedly said that as individuals , we are all very different individuals and have different choices but that's what makes all of us interesting. I want everyone to know my opinion and choice and get in a healthy discussion through comments.
OMG !!! I cannot believe I had never watched this before. Once again your review is perfect, and the few weak spots (Carla falling for Rai easily, no injury after such an accident) are nothing when compared to the rest. Brilliant acting, beautifully filmed and directed. I am now in love with bruno and Rai. Why is this movie never mentioned anywhere??? Your 8.5 ranking is totally deserved.
It brings fun, emotion, it arouses questions, even pretends for a (short) while that we will have a sad ending... Not a rom com but not a comedy either. I just watched the story of three people and how love wins at the end.
For once, I did not read your review before watching the movie. Read the first Line, when then straight to the end and your ranking and the decision was made to give it a try. I had no Idea of what the movie was about and it is better this way!
This one ranks number four in my all time favorites, After brokeback mountain, God's own country and call me by your name.

The Shortest Distance is Round 3: Fallen Flowers

Continuing with the weird trilogy of "The Shortest Distance", I am so glad that finally I am done with part 3 and won't have to deal with this again in future. Thankfully, as of now the makers have not announced any further parts; which will save all of us on this earth from the embarrassment of watching this in near future. After the first 10 minutes are used in sort of recapping bits of first two parts, the story moves forward. Haruto is now starting to have feelings for Ruka, the mysterious pole dancer from second part. In a fit of rage, Ruka ends up killing the goat man and to save him and Haruto, Shibahara asks them to go underground. Meanwhile Shibahara continues the search for Seiya (the guy who had cut off Haruto's penis). It turns out Seiya is now also taking care of the original club owner from part 1. Both of them were released after they had informed Shibahara of Aoyama's secret location. Shibahara tortures Seiya's boyfriend leading to Seiya killin

One Summer Night (Korean)

I really wanted to like this film but for non native speakers, these movie leaves a lot to be understood and the way scenes were unfolding in front of me, I wasn't sure many times what was really going on. The story had potential button getting any back story on any of the characters limited my ability to empathize with any of these actors. Film starts with two North Korea military guys Yong Joon and Jae Sung having sex and they are caught red handed and they run. Three years later we see Yong Joon in Seoul leading a very mundane and poor life. He has a boyfriend Tae-Kyu, who is a weird guy. He is carefree, doesn't do any work and is completely emotional and financially dependent on Young Joon. In fact, even Yong Joon will go to any lengths to protect him , fend for him and taking care of him to the extent of even taking up prostitution. Suddenly one day Jae Sung appears in their life again. His motivation is not clear but it is obvious he wants Yong Joon back in his life, who

Ultimate masturbation: Shigoki no yama (Japanese) [The Ultimate Masturbation]

I would never know what was the point behind making this film. Was it supposed to be a comedy, cos it wasn't. It wasn't even porn. It was just a silly attempt at making something absolutely senseless and ridiculous. The story, as well as direction is equally shoddy. You could laugh for having seen something so bad, but I wouldn't call that comedy. An old man runs a camp about gay masturbation. The explanation given is that gays masturbate for pleasure unlike straight men, for whom the act is seen as shame or because they can't find a woman. One day a straight man shows up and wants to join the camp for his thesis. After discussion, he is allowed in. Rules include that you can masturbate together, you can masturbate one another, but there is no fellatio or anal sex. Some students of course breaks rule. The teacher then talks about 2 forms of masturbation which gives ultimate pleasure. He shows one without touching and then refuses to talk of the other. Somehow suddenly,
